During the runup to the 2024 presedential election, Donald Trump promised to do something about the prices of common consumer goods. He and J.D. Vance made specific complaints about the price of eggs (link). Trump has said that he will bring down the price of gas to $2 a gallon (link). He also claimed that he would “cut energy prices in half within 12 months” (link, link)
We would love it if the prices of these things came down! However, we also know that a lot of economists believe that the president can't do too much to directly impact consumer prices. But let's see how this goes. We've long been of the opinion that Trump is a bullshitter with no regard for the truth or falsehood of any statement he makes. But maybe we're wrong. Maybe all you Trump voters know what you're doing. After all, only a million Americans died on his watch last time. What could happen this go around?
So here's the deal. We do our shopping at the same store every Sunday. We're going to post photos of the price of eggs and gas every week. This will give Trump a chance to prove us wrong and prove all y'all right.
PS: In the September debate against Kamala Harris, Trump also promised about Ukraine "That is a war that's dying to be settled. I will get it settled before I even become president." He previously told CNN it would only take him 24 hours to accomplish that. How's that going?
